Amazon’s Claude Fable 5.1 is now available on AWS. Anthropic describes Fable 5.1 as delivering frontier intelligence across coding, scientific research, and enterprise workflows, designed for long-running, high-stakes work that can span hours and multiple applications.
Anthropic designates Fable 5.1 as a Covered Model, a category that carries additional data-retention, safety review, and access policies wherever offered on AWS.
Data retention can extend up to 30 days, with human review by Amazon personnel under a new aws_review mode that retains prompts and outputs for safety review within the AWS boundary. The legacy provider_data_share mode remains in use for some configurations, and Amazon Bedrock does not share data with the model provider.
Eligible customers can use Covered Models through Enterprise Frontier Safeguards, keeping their data in a cloud environment they control. Access options include Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS.
CLOUD-NATIVE OS AND COMPUTE UPDATES EXPAND AWS’ PLATFORM
Amazon Linux 2027 (AL2027) is in public preview. The release is built for cloud-native workloads on AWS, aiming to deliver performance, scale, and security tailored for web applications, databases, containerized microservices, AI/ML workloads, and large-scale infrastructure. AL2027 runs on kernel 7.1+ and builds on the AL2023 baseline to provide a secure, stable AWS-native operating system.
PERFORMANCE BOOSTS: GRAVITON5-BASED INSTANCES AND SNAPSHOT-START FOR CONTAINERS
New EC2 R9g and R9gd memory-optimized instances, powered by AWS Graviton5 processors, offer improved price-performance for memory-intensive workloads. They are claimed to deliver up to 25% better compute performance over Graviton4-based R8g/R8gd, with databases up to 30% faster and ML workloads up to 35% faster.
Lambda SnapStart now supports container images as an opt-in feature, enabling faster startup times—down to sub-second latency—for latency-sensitive workloads such as ML inference and interactive APIs.
NEW MANAGEMENT AND SECURITY FEATURES IN THE AWS ECOSYSTEM
AWS Agent Registry has reached general availability, offering a private, governed catalog and discovery layer for agents, tools, skills, MCP servers, and custom resources within organizations. The GA release includes enterprise features built on preview capabilities, including enhanced workflows and audit trails.
BIG DATA AND LAKEHOUSE UPDATES: ICEBERG V3 SUPPORT IN REDSHIFT
Amazon Redshift now supports Apache Iceberg v3 tables, enabling reading and writing Iceberg v3 formats in data lakes. The update introduces default column values, row lineage, and deletion vectors, with Graviton-based provisioned and serverless clusters supporting the new format.
