JetBrains has become a general member of the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), a Linux Foundation cross-industry initiative dedicated to improving software supply-chain security. The membership was announced during OpenSSF Community Day Europe in Prague, co-located with Open Source Summit Europe.
- OpenSSF hosts projects relied on by many teams, including Sigstore for signing and verifying software and SLSA for supply-chain integrity
OPENSSF AND WHY IT MATTERS
OpenSSF brings together industry players to address security challenges across the software supply chain. It is home to projects used widely in the community, such as Sigstore and SLSA. Its AI/ML Security Working Group publishes guidance on signing machine-learning models and on safe instructions for AI code assistants. AI, SECURITY AND THE ROLE OF JETBRAINS AIR
As coding agents become more prevalent, the cost of verification grows and securing the development process becomes more important. The OpenSSF community provides a venue to address questions about trusting AI-assisted code and the outputs of coding agents. JetBrains notes that JetBrains Air is part of how it thinks about these questions within its products, helping developers understand and verify what agents produce.
WHAT JETBRAINS HOPES TO ACHIEVE WITH OPENSSF
JetBrains emphasizes collaboration and openness, aiming to help the industry meet emerging security challenges posed by AI-assisted development through participation in OpenSSF.
IMPACT FOR DEVELOPERS
The collaboration is positioned to strengthen developers’ trust in JetBrains tools by increasing visibility into code sources and dependencies, including AI-generated code.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
The announcement was made at OpenSSF Community Day Europe in Prague. JetBrains says it will continue engaging with the OpenSSF community to advance questions related to secure software development in an AI-driven landscape.
