Google Translate today announced two upgrades designed to make live audio translations more seamless on mobile devices.
The updates expand live translation availability to 70+ languages, with Android multitasking and iOS earpiece access highlighted.
ANDROID: LIVE TRANSLATIONS CAN RUN IN THE BACKGROUND
The upgrade lets Android users keep live translations running in the background, including when the screen is locked or the user multitasks. TechStaged has also covered Cloudflare rolls out task-based OAuth consent with optional scopes.
The company notes that more than a third of live translation sessions now last longer than five minutes.
IOS: LIVE TRANSLATIONS VIA THE PHONE’S EARPIECE
iOS users worldwide can now receive live translations directly through the phone’s earpiece, a feature that is already available on Android.
When headphones aren’t handy, holding the phone to the ear provides audio translations in scenarios like noisy airports or crowded tours.
AVAILABILITY AND FUTURE NOTES
Google’s post also notes that iOS support for some live-translation capabilities is coming soon.
These updates are part of an ongoing effort to make translations more seamless in everyday mobile use.
