Google announced the expansion of its AI Educator Series to the UK and Ireland, aiming to equip 650,000 educators with comprehensive digital literacy training and skills.
The program will be delivered through teacher-led virtual and in-person events and features a practical, bite-sized curriculum built by educators for educators.
Upon completing modules, teachers can earn micro-credentials and badges to showcase their AI literacy.
HOW THE PROGRAMME WORKS
The curriculum is designed to be practical and bite-sized, enabling teachers to apply lessons to personalize instruction, simplify administrative tasks, and tailor lessons to diverse learning needs. Content is delivered via teacher-led virtual and in-person events, and the program is open to all educators in the UK and Ireland.
CONTEXT AND UK IMPLICATIONS
The expansion follows an international rollout that began in the United States, where the program reached about 6 million educators, and later expanded to India and Korea.
In the UK, analysis from Public First indicates that about 74% of roles in education could be enhanced by AI, highlighting the market for upskilling in schools.
The AI Works for Britain report points to a growth opportunity, noting that around 15% of the UK is already saving time with AI and that there is untapped potential to scale.
The initiative aligns with the UK government’s goal to train 10 million workers in digital skills by 2030, and it includes a partnership with the National Governance Association to create an AI Policy Toolkit for school governors and trustees.
Together, the toolkit and the Educator Series aim to ensure educators and school leaders are equipped with essential digital literacy for the modern classroom.
